G00gle has approximately 4,000,000,000 (4 billion) web pages cached (or
at least some meta tags) and searchable
I need to cache just 1 billion pages of more relevant information. It takes one of my web servers about 1 second to cache a site, that's 1
billion seconds needed which is converted to 11,575 days or 31 years!
If I want to be able to accomplish this task of 1 billion pages in only
a year, I will need to either set up 30 servers at the basic speed I have
now or set up 10 high speed servers just for the web fetching bots (each
would require T3+ internet connections, software, hardware, etc).
I myself cannot afford to set up this kind of network without grants, sponsors,
low interest loans, backers, investors or donators/contributors (have a
corporation, will figure out how to sell stocks eventually). I currently have 2 personal web servers (I
run, admin, config, install, upgrade, etc) that run on business cable and
DSL internet access accounts.
Right now with the low grade servers and internet lines combined, I can index and
cache about 1,000,000 (1 million) sites in about 14 days (2 weeks) using
just one server, but that would take 133 years to catch up to G00gle's 4
billion sites!
So basically the only thing holding me back from being the best search
engine in the world is not being able to cache 5 billion pages within 12
months I need to lease about 50+ collocated web servers (can be as low as
$75-100/month, so 50X100=$5,000/month for the first year) with OC3+ internet
access and half to a full terabyte data transfer allowance. After I cached
the 5 billion sites, I could then cut the servers down to half (around 25 to
keep up with re-caches and new pages) and also use cheaper services (maybe
bring the cost to somewhere to $2,000+/month after the first year).
So basically, the only reason SirSeek.com is not the best search
engine in the World is due to money to cover the costs to set up
everything and to release a news release (and a bit of advertising). We have
basic text advertising
(already runs on 5,000 pages) and basic
banner advertising
(already runs on 10,000+ pages) in the works (basically done,
just need a designers touch) so we may make money (even custom stickers,
sponsor ads and affiliate programs which are already generating my needed
income which pays me enough that I a am self employed and covers
bills, even had a baby recently). I could also use some help from a few good
university or college (university near me, they could use part time work I
am sure) student programmers (ASP or PHP) for the first year. I would also
require to hire a design team for up to a month (some agency type place) to
give SirSeek.com a remodeling and cleaner look and faster loading (HTML code
cleanup and CSS). Once up and going, I would have to hire a basic team
(about 4-5 people to start with and an office to work from) from answering
phones to doing what is needed daily.
Maybe time for me to speak to the local mayor and let him know I know a
way to create more jobs (the bigger help I get, the more jobs). I am slowly
working on a business plan (but I am a programmer at heart), should maybe
hire someone to quicken up the pace (I can afford to hire a part timer for
tiny jobs).
Please
post a suggestion for me on how to raise some needed funds, whether
through government loans/grants to other organizations/corporations who can
help... I am sure I can accomplish this without any major investors or
having to resort to selling off pieces of my business (stocks).
SirSeek.com will be big! HUGE! G00gle has proved that even a website can be a
multi billion dollar corporation (even after the the supposed "death of the
DOT COM(s)" in the 90's) showing up in the major stock markets, so now I know the risk is
worth it.
I already have contributed almost $1,000,000 worth of programming (3
years worth of programming, plus 3 years of training/learning), administering, promoting, advertising, costs and more into my
network! I am already ahead of many in this game (plus we have features no
other search engines have).
