Metal Detecting Findings

Here you will see stuff found with a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 (can be bought at Walmart) metal detector which I have been able to borrow for the fall season of 2005. I am not ready to buy my own metal detector yet as I need to know if I will use it, enjoy it and even possibly make a metal detector pay for it's self (with "lost treasures"). I think I will enjoy seeking out old lost coins the most, I used to collect coins as a kid.

Aug 16th, 2005 Coin Findings (mostly clads)

Here is what I found on August 16th, 2005 in my front yard. The 1923(S mint) Liberty Peace silver dollar coin was a nice find (only valued at about $10, but hey, its my first find)! The clad coins (clad is a term used to describe newer change/coinage that was lost and found in the ground, often a bit corroded or damaged, might as well take it to a store and spend it...) consist of a 25c, 2@10c and 3@1cents. I still have a lot of ground to cover in our front yard alone, I only looked around our bush at our front window so far, spent maybe about an hour to find these "treasures", WOOHOO!

Aug 17th, 2005 Coin Findings (mostly clads)

Above is my metal detecter findings for Aug. 17th, 2005. Found: 1954 silver US quarter, 1938 5 centigos (mexico? silver?), 1930 wheat penny, 1945 wheat penny, 1929 wheaty, 1919 wheaty, and a bunch of crappy clads: 1970 25 cents, 3 dimes (1984, 1975, 1969), 5 pennies (1982D, 1980, 1976, 1981, 1968). This change (coins) was found in my front yard in about 2 hours.

Some stuff found with a metal detector you can just throw in the garbage...

Not all that glitters is GOLD... Here is some of the junk I found while looking for coins. Fortunately I do not find a lot of garbage as I can set my metal detector settings to get rid of pull tabs, foil and other crap. The only reason I found this crap is because I was looking in a highly contaminated area that was used as a dump in the 20s and 30s (lots of broken glass, so I didn't look too much).

Top: top of a can/canister, rusty old iron nail, mini bronze statue of a naked boy (taking/leaving a pee/urinating), foil label.

Bottom: sardine can key, top part of squeezable cream.
